ABOUT MIRTH & REVERENCE

Mirth & Reverence is all about exploring and emphasizing the universal truths revealed by various traditions and teachers from around the world. The basic idea here is to emphasize the common ground between various cultures and belief systems. Since earth-based traditions predate every other belief system on every continent, we are drawing on our ancestral European traditions to structure and organize Mirth & Reverence.

Mirth & Reverence is published quarterly, at the mid-point of each season—October 31, January 31, April 30 and July 31—corresponding to important festivals in the ancient traditions. Mirth & Reverence is organized according to the traditional elements—air, fire, water, earth, ether (spirit)—and their associations as described here.

Air—This section includes essays on various scholarly and philosophical topics: the power of mind and thought, communication and language, perception, knowledge, asceticism. Also, book and film reviews will be included here.

Fire—Articles about energy, focusing on renewable resources: wind, solar, biomass, fuel cells, etc. Also, any type of creative pieces: art, poetry, fiction, photography and music reviews.

Water—Articles about physical and emotional health: herbal medicinals, accupuncture, Ayurveda, homeopathy, Tai Chi, personal improvement, etc. Also, love stories and articles about water quality and aquatic ecology.

Earth—Articles about our relationship to Earth: land conservation, organic gardening, sustainable agriculture, resource management, environmental restoration. Also, articles relating practical knowledge: food and cooking, how-tos ... and anything to do with manifestation in the physical realm.

Ether (Spirit)—Articles about illumination, divinity, wisdom (as opposed to "knowledge" under Air), God and Goddess, synchronicity, collective unconscious, Gods, myths, archetypes, ritual, etc.

Thanks for dropping by, and please let us know what you think—good, bad or indifferent, all feedback is welcome.
